Local Goat…..Artisan Goat Cheese

Local Goat is just west of Gingin on 148 acres of Banksia woodland, an hour north of Perth. Gerald milks the goats each morning, then Julie processes the milk to create a variety of artisan goat cheeses. The property is serviced purely by solar power and rainwater.

The goats have paddocks to graze, as well as trees and shrubs to browse. The property and goats are managed in a sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly manner. Happy, healthy goats produce high quality milk which makes excellent cheese.

The Saanen breed is well known for extended milking times while the British Alpine is recognised for large quantities of milk. Local Goat has some of each and looking forward to the result of crossing these breeds.

Local Goat produces small-batch, artisan chesses that reflect the clean, natural environment of the Northern Valleys.

The Gingin Hotel

The Gingin Hotel was built in 1902 and 1903 and the two storey brick building was officially opened on January 29th, 1903.

Nestled into the valleys to the north of Perth, it is the ideal distance from the capital for a day trip and is a popular stop off for tourists heading north. The hotel was allegedly built for two defrocked Irish priests who enjoyed their evening drink!

It is now an excellent venue for small conferences, weddings, trade shows and weekend retreats. The hotel offers excellent accommodation, quality food and an excellent range of draught beers and a fine wine list.
